"There’s nothing a postmodern anthropologist likes better than dichotomy and discord. We’re essentially the NASCAR fans of academia: watching with the sordid hope of seeing something disastrous. That’s not to say we’re all sociopaths (knowingly at least) …it just so happens that the best time to see socio-cultural patterns emerge, in their most beautiful and pure form, is in the midst of chaos and confusion. While anthropologists are only too happy to see disorder, however, we tend to be a little bit slow in putting out the fires we may sometimes cause."
