Turkey's Nostalgic Gazoz Culture | Istanbul Eats

Turkey's Nostalgic Gazoz Culture | Istanbul Eats: "In a 2003 TV commercial for Cola Turka, the actor Chevy Chase was seen speaking Turkish and then sporting a moustache, after taking just one sip of the intended challenger of Coke in this country. This sensational ad – which riffed on the old theme of American cultural imperialism through its number-one agent, Coca-Cola – was the first time that Turkish soft drinks caught our attention. Though we didn’t take to the overly sweet Cola Turka, we did start looking beyond, to its local brethren in the market: gazoz, a world of nearly extinct Turkish carbonated drink brands with a fanatical following.

One recent winter morning at Avam Kahvesi, the waiter, Ulaş, pitched wood into a large fireplace in the back. The dance of flames refracted through gazoz bottles that lined the walls, sat on tables, and peaked from crates stacked around the room. There were literally gazoz bottles everywhere in this one-of-a-kind shrine to Turkish soft drinks.

ARCHAEOLOGY - Turkish minister criticizes archaeology excavations

ARCHAEOLOGY - Turkish minister criticizes archaeology excavations: "Some of the archaeologists currently working at excavation sites around Turkey are not taking their job seriously enough, Tourism and Culture Minister Ömer Çelik has said, according to daily Hürriyet.

Çelik made the comments in an interview with Der Spiegel Magazine at the Berlin International Tourism Bourse, a well-known travel trade fair.

German archeologists have been overseeing excavations at Göbekli Tepe, he said, adding that a total of 11,000 sculptures went missing from the site in 2010. “I am not accusing them of stealing, however, this is evidence that they are not giving sufficient importance to security issues.” "

Exploring the North East Region of Turkey

A typical stereotype picture exists when people think about travel in Turkey. Most talk about the ruins of Ephesus, hot air balloons of Cappadocia or holiday resorts on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts. However, in the Northeast of Turkey, there is a completely different landscape view.
Photographs on the Internet make it seem so surreal and unless you have seen it for yourself, it is difficult to believe this is Turkey. Lush green mountains covered in trees, tall waterfalls and wooden hotels dot the landscape. During winter, heavy snowfall turns the scenery into a white blanket and anyone could be forgiven for comparing it with Switzerland.
This region is culturally strong. People belong to the Laz or Hemsin ethnic groups but some people’s family history can be traced to Georgian or Azerbaijan cultures. No matter what their backgrounds are, traditions are firmly rooted in music, dancing and making food from natural resources. This is where golden honey is made by queen Caucasian bees and Rize city supplies the rest of Turkey with sweet and tasty tea leaves.

Responses to letters he had always send the BDP MPs Kurdish party, the PKK in Qandil and Europe it should be managed.

The PKK may announce a ceasefire on this occasion, but it is not yet certain. should say that the meeting between Öcalan in Imrali and BDP delegation was welcomed by intense shelling of their camp Qandil ( 4 killed PKK). For several days the incessant takeoffs F16 made a terrible racket in Diyarbakir. So it was quite predictable that the command of the PKK requires certain conditions. Mine that injured four soldiers in a district of Diyarbakir was probably a response to the bombings."
